Impacto de atributos estudiantiles en la percepción de indicadores ambientales, Facultad de Agronomía UASLP

2013
The perception of sustainability indicators, which influence the improvement of life quality, was assessed through a study conducted within the student community of the Faculty of Agronomy of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi. For that, a consultation tool with a list of 66 indicators on 12 topics was designed. Topics had social, economic and environmental scopes. Students from three undergraduate programs responded to 173 surveys. Answers were classified in the categories necessary, not necessary and indicator not understood. Data were analyzed descriptively and a chi-square test (P ≤ 0.10) was applied to relate the attributes gender, undergraduate program and semester with the tendencies of the responses. Result show that 34 indicators were considered necessary by 80 to 100% of the students. Highlights include 24 indicators across a range of 20 to 30% that were considered not necessary, based on the student’s opinions. Regarding the Chi-square test, gender was a factor conditioning seven indicators (10%), the variable degree conditioned 12 (19%), and semester conditioned 13 (20%). The indicators of quality and quantity of available water were perceived with the highest priority to improve life quality (95.4%). This study contributes to the assessment of sustainability within the university framework and gives some elements of management systems and environmental information.
