Study on Effect of N-carboxymethylchitosan on Detached Mulberry Leaves and Silkworm Physiology

2003
Detached mulberry leave were treated with different concentration of N-carboxymethylchitosan (NCMC) to investigate the effect on the fresh preservation. The results showed that NCMC could reduce the loss of the chlorophyll, inhibit breathing intensity and decrease the loss of the nutritious materials, such as carbohydrate and protein. Biological assay showed that NCMC had no bad influence on growth and development of silkworm, but could increase the molter body weight, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, cocoon shell rate and good pupa rate. Moreover NCMC had good effect on inhibiting three bacteria of silkworm.
