The present invention provides a method for producing a thermoplastic resin by reacting a reactant that contains a dihydroxy compound. The dihydroxy compound to be used in said production method contains a dihydroxy compound represented by formula (1), and the total combined weight in the dihydroxy compound of a compound represented by formula (A), a compound represented by formula (B), and a compound represented by formula (C) relative to 100 parts by weight of the dihydroxy compound represented by formula (1) is 1,500ppm or less.
