Presentation of Case An 18-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal pain and an eating disorder. He was well until six years earlier, when he began to notice a persistent sore throat and dysphagia. He was admitted to another hospital, where he was transferred to the psychiatric unit because of a "psychogenic" problem. After three months the sore throat disappeared, but he began to have occasional mild epigastric pain and vomiting after eating solid food and thereafter limited his food intake to liquids.
