Influence of Oil Lubrication and Heat Treatment on Wear Resistance of Thermally Sprayed Molybdenum Coating

2013
To date, efforts forwarding to develop thermal spray coatings technology have been focused on increasing the durability and integrity of the coating. Improvement of mechanical characteristics such as wear resistance of the deposit, minimizing residual stress levels and reducing porosity are the main objectives of these works. The specific aim of this paper is to determine the wear resistance of molybdenum coating thermally sprayed on a steel substrate. This behavior has been determined using a simple ball-on-plate tribometer. Attention was given on the influence of a post-annealing at 850°C for one hour in vacuum and oil lubrication conditions.
