Study on displacement limit of rubber bearing isolation buildings in near-fault region

2013
The rubber bearing isolation layer displacement will be very large when isolated buildings are impacted by near-fault pulse-type ground motions. The project of soft collision displacement limit was presented.A base-isolation RC frame structure was designed according to the Code for Seismic Design of Building.Near-fault pulse-type ground motions were selected. The influences of key parameters, such as reserve displacement, limit stiffness and damping,on responses of isolated structure were analyzed. The results show that if the reserve displacement increases, the requirement of limit stiffness increases and the effect of displacement limit reduces.Along with increase of limit stiffness, the isolation layer displacement decreases, but the maximum storey drift of superstructure increases. The maximum isolation layer displacement and maximum storey drift of superstructure decrease if damping increases properly. The effect of displacement limit and isolation will be obtained simultaneously if limit parameters are elected rightly. The optimization of limit parameters is proposed.
