Small and medium enterprise access to finance in Peru

Peru provides an especially interesting case study of SME finance due to the availability of extensive quantitative information from official sources on SME financial markets. Using these data from official sources complemented by more limited information from financial institutions and SMEs, this article provides an analysis of SME finance in Peru and an assessment of the impact of changes in the enabling environment and of access to financial technologies. In addition, it compares, where possible, the findings with the results of recent multi-country surveys, and provides conclusions on methodologies for the analysis of SME finance and on the relevance of the Peruvian experience.
