Evaluación geomorfológica y del efecto de sitio como contribución a los estudios de peligrosidad sísmica a escala local: ciudad de San Cristóbal, Cuba occidental

2016
This investigation is focused on the relief geomorphological assessment for the identification of the features of the recent tectonic activity prior to the evaluation of the site effects on the city of San Cristobal, where an earthquake measuring 8 MSK on the Richter scale struck in 1880. The geomorphological evaluation of the mountainous sector adjacent to the seismogenic zone showed evidence of the active nature of the Pinar faults, by applying the indicators of the vertical dissection of the relief, river incision, separation of basins, and the depth and sinuosity of the mountainous front. The results allowed classifying the soils into three types according to their seismic response in addition to anticipating the variation of the macro-seismic intensity based on local geotechnical characteristics, which is a tool for future urban planning.
