KAMIOKANDE*,+ KAMIOKA Nucleon Decay Experiments; status and performance

A report is given of the present status of the KAMIOKANDE (Kamioka Nucleon Decay Experiment) detector, that is now in operation at the 1000 m underground in the Kamioka mine in Japan. A brief account is made on the preliminary results obtained in the first one month running of the detector.
