PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical member which shows retardation characteristics effective for a viewing angle enlargement and compensation, etc. for high-contrast display of liquid crystal and exhibits the excellent thinning when used together with a polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The optical compensation polarizing plate has a retardation layer on one side of a polarizing plate 3, and the retardation layer comprises one side or both sides of a polymer stretched film A(7) of which the retardation layer satisfies Re=20 to 300 nm and Rz/Re=1.0 to 8, and a polymer layer B(9) comprising a coating film having thickness of 1 to 20 μm which satisfies Re=1 to 100 nm and Rz/Re=5 to 100, wherein in-plane refractive indexes are nx and ny, refractive index in the thickness direction is nz, thickness is d, (nx-ny)d=Re and (nx-nz)d=Rz are defined.
