Imaging as a Localized Biomarker: Opportunities and Challenges

2020
In recent years, the concept of imaging biomarkers is increasingly being utilized in drug development and for producing images of physiological and physicochemical processes in a living subject. Continuous research and development for more than 30 years has produced a steady stream of new imaging technologies as well as incremental improvements that address the limitations of existing technologies. This article focuses on understanding the opportunities for using imaging biomarkers as tools in drug development while recognizing the current challenges and how efforts to overcome these challenges are evolving. Keywords: imaging biomarkers; drug development; physicochemical processes; physiological processes
