TheaimoftheSNCFresearch division programincollaboration withLTN-IINRETS laboratory isto respond tothehigh demand tomore environmentally friendly transportation. Wehaveinvestigated general behaviours ofsupercapacitors forrailway application with twopowerful methods ofanalysis. Thefirst isconstant charge/discharge current athigh level value (300, 500A), the second isimpedance spectroscopy method. Anelectrothermal circuit model ofsupercapacitors based onactivated carbon andorganic electrolyte isdefied for agiven railway application. Matlab/Simulink simulations areshowntoassessthemodelunder railway specifications.
