categories. Using both WHO classification and quartile categories, there was no statistical difference in the biochemical recurrence rate between BMI groups. After adjusting for other important covariables, the multivariate Cox proportional hazards model showed that a high BMI did not have an independent impact on biochemical recurrencefree survival (Hazard Ratio 0.989, 95% Confidence Interval: 0.957– 1.002, p 0.648). CONCLUSIONS: Obese patients appeared to have low levels of preoperative PSA. BMI was not associated with biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy in Japanese patients with localized PCa. Racial differences may exist in the relationship between obesity and outcomes of radical prostatectomy in PCa patients.
