A comprehensive review of experimental studies on aerobic digestion of wastewater sludge

2020
Abstract Aerobic digestion is the process of breaking down of larger molecules to smaller molecules in the presence of oxygen. The manuscript presents a comprehensive review of experimental studies on aerobic digestion of wastewater sludge. In the review section, the manuscript presents an overview of developments in aerobic digestion of wastewater sludge. In the experimental studies, municipal sewage sludge was digested in the presence of oxygen by using dry yeast as a catalyst. Batch experiments were carried out in Armfield aerobic digester to maximize the reduction in VSS by optimizing the process parameters such as digestion time, air flowrate, concentration of sludge, and pH of feed at the constant temperature of 35°C.
