Treatment of traumatic lumbosacral spondyloptosis combined with unstable pelvic ring injury

2015
Traumatic lumbosacral spondyloptosis, usually caused by high-energy trauma, is very rare, and only a few cases have been reported thus far [1, 2]. Unstable pelvic ring injury is also caused by high-energy trauma. Both injuries usually occur along with hypovolemic shock and multi-organ injuries and are associated with a high mortality rate or poor outcome [3, 4]. The simultaneous occurrence of both lumbosacral spondyloptosis and unstable pelvic ring injury is very rare [5]. Here, we describe the case of a patient with traumatic lumbosacral spondyloptosis combined with unstable pelvic ring injury, who was treated with 2-stage surgery. We have also reviewed the literature on the subject.
