Perceived Supervisor Support and Cultural Intelligence: A Moderated Mediation Model

2018
This paper examines the mediating mechanism of the relationship between perceived supervisor support (PSS) and cultural intelligence (CQ). It also examines a moderated mediation model to affect the mechanism underlying the relationship between PSS and CQ of migrant employees. We tested our model using regression and PROCESS for SPSS for a sample of employees in Australia (N= 462). The results show that organizational social exchange (OSE) fully mediated the relationship between PSS and CQ while subjective career success (SCS) partly mediated the above relationship. In addition, perceived organizational support (POS) moderated the relationship between OSE and CQ, with this relationship being stronger among workers with high rather than low POS. The paper also found the indirect effect of PSS on CQ via OSE was stronger for those migrant employees with higher rather than lower POS. The theoretical and practical contributions of the finding are also discussed.
