PEAK-TO-AVERAGEPOWER RATIOCOMPARISON OF OFDM AND FDRM

2005
A novel methodofmodulation termed Frequency Domain Reciprocal Modulation (FDRM),originally developed by T.D.Williams [1][2], hasbeenproposed tosolve the problem ofveryfastdynamicmultipath distortion in wireless communication environments. FDRM isan enhanced methodwhichcanbeadapted toOrthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Inthis paper, a simple mathematical modelisderived toevaluate and comparethepeak-to-average powerratio (PAPR)for FDRM in relation to single-carrier/OFDM systems. Simulation results showthatbothsingle-carrier and OFDM transmissions havea relatively lowervalueof PAPR thanFDRM system. SincethePAPR valuein OFDM isalready fairly high, further research isrequired forPAPRreduction inFDRM systems toensure reliability andfeasibility ofFDRM techniques.
