Interaction between Water Borne Waves and Seismic Waves in the Ocean Bottom: The Forward- and Inverse Problem,

1986
Abstract : The work is divided into two main parts. The first part, the forward problem, is aimed at establishing a theoretical framework for excitation and propagation of elastic waves in linear homogeneous isotropic media. The second part, the inverse problem, is aimed at determining the environmental parameters which significantly influence acoustic propagation in a shallow water environment. The methods developed here indicate that, under favorable conditions, it is possible to infere ocean bottom parameters such as P- and S- wave phase velocities from near surface measurements.
