Intra-uterine infection in the eye

A special attention in the embryo damaging should be paid to mother's infections in the first three months of the intra-uterine development. One of the most sensitive organ on the intra-uterine infection is the eye. Most frequently these infections are caused by Toxoplasma gondii, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplex virus, Rubella virus,Varicella-Zoster virus, Erytrovirus V19 (Parvovirus V19) and Treponema pallidum. The eye manifestation of the congenital toxoplasmosis are retinoc-horoidities, microphtalmos, iridocyclities and cataract. The Cytomegalovirus, in a congenital infection, causes chorioretinitis, microphtalmia and strabismus. Infections induced by the "Rubella" virus causes microplitalmos, congenital cataract, retinopathy and uveitis. The Herpes simplex virus as the cause of a congenital infection leads to chorioretinitis and kefatoconjunctivitis while the Varicella-Zoster virus and also Erytrovirus V19 infection gives rise to chorioretinitis and cataract. The eye manifestation of the congenital siphilis are keratitis, chorioretinitis, atrophy n. optici.
