Side effects of oral contraceptives (authors transl)

The occurrence rate of side effects of Biogest SPOFA Norbiogest SPOFA Stediril Wyeth Microgynon 30 Schering Ovidon Richter and Yermonil Ciba/Geigy was studies in 366 to 1890 cycles. The kind of preparation was indicated according to the 3 constitutional types of women: female adipose female slim virile slim. None of the women conceived during the period of contraceptive administration. The following side effects were recorded: increased transaminase levels increased cholesterol levels indigestion weight gain headaches depressions fatigue hypermenorrhea and intermenorrheal bleeding. The overall occurrence rate of side effects did not exceed 8%. The most frequently seen side effects were indigestion and weight gain. The lowest occurrence rate of adverse effects was recorded on using Microgynon and Yermonil (3%). The recently produced contraceptives with lower steroid content present a positive contribution with regard to reliability and the occurrence of adverse effects. (authors modified)
