Feeding ammonium acetate in molasses liquid supplement to lactating dairy cows

1973
Abstract Ad libitum feeding of a molasses base, liquid supplement containing 20% ammonium acetate did not depress consumption of other feeds by lactating Holstein cows. Average daily liquid supplement consumption was 2.69kg per cow. In a second trial Holstein cows fed liquid supplement produced more 4% fat corrected milk and gained more body weight than cows fed no liquid supplement. No difference in milk composition was detected. Daily liquid supplement consumption ranged from 1.26 to 6.26kg and averaged 3.72kg per cow. Liquid supplement consumption varied among cows.
