On the collective spuriosity of deformation energy curves

The class of Bohr-Mottelson-type collective kinetic energy operators (1975), is re-derived on the basis of a simple projection method. In a microscopic framework, these operators are used to obtain corrections to the deformation energy arising from the spurious degrees of freedom associated with an independent-particle model for the intrinsic system. The effects of the spuriousness on other intrinsic quantities are also studied.
