Transarterial Radioembolization in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver tumor and fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. For early-stage HCC patients, liver transplantation (LT) is the best choice because it reduces new HCC lesions due to the treatment of liver cirrhosis. But every patient is not a candidate for LT because of suitability of the patient (tumor size, macrovascular invasion, etc.) and availability of organ. For these unsuitable patients, there are nonsurgical treatment options such as transarterial embolization (TAE), transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), transarterial radioembolization (TARE), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA), and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).
