Fibrin glue with conjunctival autograft in the treatment of surgically induced necrotizing scleritis

2013
Objective To observe the clinical effect of fibrin glue (FG) with conjunctival autograft in the treatment of surgically induced necrotizing scleritis using conjunctival autograft transplantation. Methods Noncomparative interventional case series. In 14 eyes of 14 patients with surgically induced necrotizing scleritis (SINS),fibrin glue (FG) with conjunctival autograft was performed.Postoperatively, the graft status and postoperative complications were recorded. Results After surgery,no autograft dislocation and necrotizing scleritis occurred during the follow-up period. All symptoms and signs steadily reduced, except 3 cases with elevated intraocular pressure postoperatively,3 patients had improved best corrected visual acuity while 1l patients had the same BCVA.Conclusions Fibrin glue (FG) with conjunctival autograft surgery for SINS is feasible, technically easy, safe and effective. It can be one of the surgical treatment options for SINS.
