The Knee and Its Region

2011
Knee region injections as a group are generally accepted as being one of the most frequently performed musculoskeletal office-based injection procedures. This is supported by a survey of primary care physicians, which found them to be the third most common office-based injection procedure after shoulder region injections and lateral epicondyle injections [1]. A study from an outpatient physiatric musculoskeletal medicine practice found that knee region injections (n = 244; knee joint = 181; suprapatellar bursa = 51; pes anserine bursa = 12) were the most frequent office-based injection procedure, as they represented 54.8% of the total joint and soft tissue (other than trigger point injections) injection and/or aspiration procedures performed during a 2-year time period [2].
