Thyroid Metastasis of Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report

2005
We report a case of thyroid metastasis from renal cell carcinoma 5 years after nephrectomy. A 54-year-old man was referred to our clinic for treatment of thyroid goiter with hypothyroidism. He had undergone nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma 5 years earlier. Total thyroidectomy was performed for thyroid tumor for restriction of subject symptom. Pathological examination demonstrated metastatic renal cell carcinoma to the thyroid. Significant metastases to the thyroid are not frequent clinically. However, in a patient with a history of malignant tumor, the possibility of metastatic disease should be considered.
