The invention discloses a preparation method for a platinum-rhenium reforming catalyst and the platinum-rhenium reforming catalyst. The method comprises the following steps: (1) contacting a sodium alkyl xanthate solution with pH of 7.5-9 with an aluminium oxide carrier, and performing filtering and drying, so as to obtain a dried sample; (2) contacting the dried sample with a first active composition solution, and performing drying and roasting, so as to obtain a catalyst intermediate; and (3) contacting the catalyst intermediate with a second active composition solution, and performing drying and roasting. In the method, a sulfuration process of the catalyst is fused, corrosion of the catalyst in the sulfuration process on equipment is avoided before the catalyst is used, and the catalyst production technology is simple, and preparation cost is low. Additionally, the platinum-rhenium reforming catalyst prepared according to the method does not need a pre-sulfuration process before being used, and possesses relatively good catalytic performance compared with a sulfate-sulfurized catalyst.
