Building Code Energy Efficiency Developments

The present N.Z. Building Code Clause 111 requirement for thermal efficiency in residential buildings dates back to 1977, whilst the more limited requirement for non-residential buildings has been in place only since 1993. The paper reports on research undertaken to develop a suitable building classification regime for a future Clause 111. The research has included the evaluation of the importance of different N.Z. building types; evaluation of the use of energy in different building types: and the development a range of possible taxonomies.
