Effect of ammonium metavanadate on the tissue structure of testis and kidney in SD rats

2009
Objective To study the effect of ammonium metavanadate on testis and kidney tissue structure in rats. Methods 120 healthy SD rats weighed (60±10)g were randomly divided into 4 groups. The rats were treated with drinking water containing 0 (the control),20,40 and 60 mg/kg of ammonium metavanadate.4 and 6 weeks later,6 SD rats in each group were randomly sacrificed, and the pathological changes of testes and kidneys with HE dyes were examined and photographed. Results With the doses of ammonium metavanadate increased, the sperm density of seminiferous tubules reduced, showing little structure at 20 mg/kg dose group was significantly affected but the sperm density decreased obviously at 60 mg/kg dose group with the wall of seminiferous tubules damaged. The results also showed that glomus of renal corpuscle and endothelial cells swelled, the lacuna of renal capsule became smaller at 20 mg/kg dose group, and that the epithelial cells of renal tubular were tumid, cavum became smaller and renal glomus was shrinked, damaged, putrescence with necrosis brush border at 40 and 60 mg/kg dose groups. Conclusion Ammonium metavanadate could damage seminiferous tubules wall.It had obvious adverse effect on the structure of kidney.
