Simple measurement of the phase modulation capability of liquid crystal phase-only light modulators

A new type of phase only optical spatial light modulator has recently been developed for use as a computer-controlled filter in the Fourier plane of optical correlation systems. This article briefly describes this device, and a simple but effective method by which it's phase modulation characteristic may be measured with high spatial resolution, to give the phase distribution across each pixel
