A Method of Controlling Integrated Wind Generators to Mitigate Flicker Level In a Wind Farm

2009
This paper proposes a novel control scheme with using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) as a STATCOM, not only to control the active power flow. but also to reduce the voltage flicker in a wind farm with two generators of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and a PMSG. Flicker mitigation is performed by regulating the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). Simulation results show that controlling PMSG is an effective measure to mitigate the flicker during continuous operation of grid connected wind turbines.
