The invention relates to a composite material for a pharmaceutical packaging material, comprising a substrate (2) and a protective layer (4), wherein - the substrate (2) having a contact region (6) with the protective layer (4) which the contact surface between substrate (2) and protective layer (4), and a region near the surface of the protective layer (4), - the substrate (2) is formed of glass, - the nature of the substrate (2) in the contact region (6) is different from the nature of the substrate (2) outside of the contact region (6), and - the protective layer (4) is formed of ceramic material.
