Developing Staff Capability for Physical Fitness Programs

1977
Physical fitness is more than the mere absence of disease or disability. It represents the ability of the human organism to maintain the integrity of its homeostasis in the face of environmental stress and a positive capability to return to a normal state after doing a certain amount of vigorous physical exercise more rapidly and with greater ease than comparable human organisms not in a state of physical fitness. The incorporation of programs to promote improved physical fitness, mental and social health, and well-being is an essential ingredient of any institutional program for the aging.
