The effect of molecular oxygen and calcium ions on the membrane permeability of erythrocytes

1991
: Extracellular Ca has shown the highest membrane destroying effect of all the factors studied. Its injurious action augmented when blood samples were exposed to atmospheric oxygen. To improve the diagnostic value of biochemical studies at the expense of red cell membrane stabilization the authors recommend the use of blood citrate plasma as the basic object of enzymic studies.
