Recognizing Specific Respiratory Patterns Preceding In-Hospital Clinical Deterioration: A Multi Center Study

2010
INTRODUCTION: Critical events such as cardiopulmonary and respiratory arrests are estimated to occur in 4% to 17% of inpatient admissions. A significant number of these events are preceded by warning signs. The EverOnTM system (EarlySense LTD, Israel) is a contact-less piezoelectric sensor placed under the mattress that provides continuous measurement of heart and respiration rates. Analyzing the mechanical respiration signals has revealed a breathing pattern, "double respiration pattern" (DRP), which was suggested to precede clinical deterioration. OBJECTIVE: Investigate the correlation between a specific respiration pattern and clinical deterioration in hospitalized patients.
