One-Pot Synthesis of (η6-Arene)bis(triphenylphosphine)(methyl)ruthenium(II) Cations. X-ray Structures of [(η6-C6H6)Ru(Me)(PPh3)2][AlCl2Me2] and the η5-Thiophene Analogue

We report one-pot syntheses for a series of complexes of the type [(η6-arene)RuIIMe(PPh3)2][AlCl2Me2] in high yields and X-ray structures of the η6-C6H6 and η5-thiophene derivatives. Other derivatives include fluorobenzene and mesitylene complexes, and all of the complexes are synthesized by addition of AlMe3 to RuCl2(PPh3)3 in the neat arene solvent or in an admixture with hexane for thiophene and fluorobenzene.
