Surface pressure dependence of molecular tilt in Langmuir-Blodgett films of 22-tricosenoic acid

1988
Abstract Using reflection high-energy electron diffraction it has been confirmed that, while the dominant molecular environment in Langmuir-Blodgett films of 22-tricosenoic acid is independent of deposition surface pressure, the molecular tilt elevation is a continuous and monotonically increasing function of it. This could be due to the incorporation of varying amounts of water. A new synthesis of 22-tricosenoic acid is described giving a consistently purer product than previous routes.
