Magnetocrystalline anisotropy of Gd-based alloys with Ce, Eu and Yb

Abstract Magnetization and torque curves have been measured at 4.2 K on Gd-based alloys with Ce, Eu and Yb. The anisotropy constant K 0 2 decreases sharply with Ce concentration, while it increases sharply with both Eu and Yb contents. The change of K 0 2 is found to correlate with the solute valence.
