Our results might be explained in two ways. First, one can assume that changes in nutritional or other essential factors are responsible or, second, the absence of a selective pressure by antibodies may favor certain VATs in lethally irradiated mice. In addition, the remission that may occur in mice in the absence of an immune response (Table I) suggests ur results might be explained in two ways. either a physiological, self-limiting capacity of T. vivax under certain environmental conditions, or differences in nutritional needs between T. vivax trypanosome populations.
