Numerical Simulation of the NASA High-Lift Trap Wing with the elsA CFD Software

2012
The ONERA has been involved in the first AIAA CFD High Lift Prediction Workshop from the beginning. Within this frame, a certain amount of aerodynamic calculations have already been carried out on the NASA Trap Wing geometry using the ONERA elsA CFD software. The mandatory workshop grid refinement and flap deflection test cases were performed on a 1-to-1 abutting structured multi-block grid provided by the organizing committee. For comparison purpose, an overset grid was generated in-house. Recent developments in ONERA CFD tools added the capability to generate and adapt Cartesian off-body grids in a near-body/off-body mesh partitioning approach. This paper presents results obtained with this new overset approach, relying on O-meshes contrary to the current best-practices, with and without off-body grid adaptation.
