Study on Causes of 57 Patients with Megaloblastic Anemia in Wuxi District

OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical significance and common causes of megaloblastic anemia(MGA)in Wuxi district.METHODS The study was undertaken in 57 consecutive cases with MGA.RESULTS The common causes of MGA were showed as followed: less intake due to prolonged chronic atrophic gastritis,diet imbalance,total gastrectomy or subtotal gastrectomy、 chronic diarrhea、 small intestinal resection、 alcohol indulgence、 chronic hepatopathy,hyperthyroidism and other unknown cases.Most of patients were aged.MGA was mostly associated with organic disease.Diet imbalance was another important cause especially in youths and women.CONCLUSION In Wuxi district,MGA was not rare in aged people.Organic disease was the major cause and other important cause was diet imbalance in young people.
