Lithium-aluminium hydride reduction of diacetoxy-12,19-dioxo-Δ9 (11),13 (18)-21-epi-methylmachaerinate yields 3β, 19ξ, 21α-trihydroxy-28-noroleana-9(11),12,17-triene. LAH reduction of acetoxy-H.-dioxo-Δ9(11), 13(18)-methyloleanolate affords a 3:1 mixture of 3β, 28-dihydroxy-12,19-oxido-Δ9(11), 13(18) -oleananeand 3β,19ξ-dihydroxy-28-noroleana-9(ll),12,17-triene.
