Homogeneous esterification of high o-celiulose extracted from Leucaena leucocephala and Hibiscus cannabinus
1991
High e-cellulose pulp was extracted from two fast growing plants, viz. Leucaena leucocephala (a perennial plant) and Hibiscus cannabin us (an annual plant), and then esterified with monoand tri-carboxylic acid anhydrides following a homogeneous esterification procedure. The physico-chemical properties of the esterified products obtained were studied and the products were characterized using IR and PM R techniques. The esterified products obtained from the o-cellulose of above plants showed properties similar to those of esters prepared from commercially available rayon-grade pulp.
