Optimal process parameter selection for pressure die casting of clutch hub using desirability approach

2021
Clutch hub is a vital component connected between pressure plate and clutch basket and requires better mechanical properties. In the clutch hub casting, porosity, blow holes, hardness and compression strength are the main factors that affect the quality. A Taguchi based desirability approach is presented in this paper to find the optimal process parameters fordie casting of ADC 12 aluminium alloy. The effect of the Ls Velocity, Hs Velocity, Intensification Velocity, Intensification Pressure, Hs Change Position, Accumulator Pressure, Metal Temperature and Fixed Die Temperature were investigated using the L18 orthogonal array. The desirability functions were calculated for the individual parameters and also the overall process. The overall desirability helps in finding the effective casting parameters which results in reduced porosity, blow holesand increased hardness and compression strength. The results showed that the selected parameters reduce the porosity, blow holes and improves the mechanical properties.
