Spallation Target Experimental Loop for Accelerator Driven System

2019
Accelerator driven sub-critical (ADS) pilot project is started in January 2011 which is composed of accelerator, reactor and target system in china. Its working principle is that the high-energy high-current proton beam produced by the accelerator bombardment heavy nuclei produces broad energy spectrum and high flux neutrons as exogenous sources to drive sub-critical core. The continuous chain reaction of fissile material in the boundary core enables long life release radionuclides eventually become non-radioactive or short-lived nuclides and are maintained Reactor operation. High power spallation target is the key module in our ADS system, its function is high efficiency removal of high energy. In order to carry out critical technological and experimental verification of liquid metal spallation target, spallation target experienced loop for ADS (STELA) system is set up by development in institute of modern physics, Chinese academy of sciences for three years since 2011. This paper introduces designed parameter, structural composition, experimental functional design and experimental parameter verification of spallation target experimental loop, which is filled with lead-bismuth eutectic alloy (LBE) melted as coolant of spallation target window, the whole system are debug and run in 213°C, the flow-rate of the loop system increases with upgrading of electromagnetic pump power. The next task is design spallation target and replace testing section which is used to test hot removal capacity and conduct material irradiation and material corrosion experiences.
