Isolation of Bacillus thuringiensis mutants resistant to physical and chemical factors

Mutation experiments were carried out for isolation of mutants ot B. thuringiensis that are resistant to physical factors, namely UV-resistant and high temperature resistant mutants and which proved to be responsible for endotoxin decay. Also, resistance to common antibiotics was investigated. These investigations aimed to find the possible interrelationships between endotoxin potency, longevity and resistance markers. Several mutants were obtained with respect to those traits understudy, and their endotoxin potencies was assessed vs. the cotton pests, Spodoptera littoralis, S. exigua and Heliothis armigera. In all the points named some of the results obtained were promising and encouraging. Zusammenfassung Isolierung von Bacillus thuringiensis-Mutanten mit Resistenz gegen physikalische und chemische Faktoren Es wurden Mutationsexperimente durchgefuhrt, um B. thuringiensis-Mutanten mit Resistenz gegen UV-Licht und hohere Temperaturen, d. h. jene Faktoren, die fur den Endotoxin-Zerfall verantwortlich sind, zu finden. Weiterhin wurde die Resistenz gegen einige Antibiotika untersucht. Die Experimente hatten zum Ziel, mogliche Beziehungen zwischen Endotoxin-Einflus, Lebensdauer und Resistenz-Kennzeichen aufzudecken. Bacillus-Wirte waren dabei Spodoptera littoralis, S. exigua und Heliothis armigera. In allen genannten Punkten wurden Teilerfolge erreicht.
