Apparatus for controlling lighting range of headlights

PURPOSE: To constitute devices for adjusting headlights so that an accurate basic adjustment of the headlights is not necessary. CONSTITUTION: At least one sensor 14 is an electro-optic sensor for detecting a lighting state in the form of a light reflected from a travel road 18 of a forward area of or an obstacle forward of a motor vehicle illuminated by a headlight 10. An evaluating device 22 stores a target value of the illuminating state in the form of data, and controls an adjusting device 12 by comparing the actually illuminating state with the target illuminating state until the illuminating state of the headlight corresponds to the target illuminating state at least similarly stored.
