The invention provides a hydrogenation catalyst, a preparation method and application thereof. The hydrogenation catalyst uses aluminum oxide as a carrier, and comprises the following compositions by weight percentage: 0.3 to 0.5 percent of active composition palladium, 1.0 to 3.0 percent of accessory ingredient X1, 0.01 to 5 percent of accessory ingredient X2, and 0.5 to 4.0 percent of alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal, wherein the palladium is distributed on the catalyst surface in lamella; the accessory ingredient Xi is selected from one or more of B, P and Si; the accessory ingredient X2 is selected from one or more of Ag, Pb, Au, Co, Cu, Bi, Ni, Pt and Ti; and the specific surface area of the catalyst is between 50 and 150 m /g, and the pore volume is between 0.2 and 1.0 ml/g. The hydrogenation catalyst is particularly applicable to hydrogenation saturation of a side product C4 distillate in the processes of catalytic cracking and steam cracking for preparing ethylene; with the catalyst, unsaturated hydrocarbon in the C4 distillate can be transformed to alkane as a raw material of ethylene cracking so as to improve the added value of the C4 distillate.
