Hacia un modelo integrador de los antecedentes y consecuencias de la proactividad medioambiental en las organizaciones

2012
This article comprehensively analyzes precedents and implications for business results stemming from the implementation of environmentally proactive strategies at organizations. It specifically analyzes the influence that pressure from customers and legal and ethical considerations have on the development of these practices and how this proactivity affects economic and environmental results. To reach the proposed objectives, the structural equations methodology was applied to a sample of 361 Spanish companies from the secondary sector. The results show that pressure from customers, competitive motivations and environmental commitment by the directors explain the reason for the proactive strategies, whereas it cannot be affirmed that environmental legislation in this sector encourages their implementation. A positive effect from the strategies was found on economic and environmental performance, which helps to overcome existing doubts in the literature regarding the nature and characteristics of these relations.
