Magnetoplastic effect in aluminum single-crystals

Motion of dislocations in Al single crystals in a dc magnetic field with no mechanical loading has been observed and studied. The dependence of mean path length and density of mobile dislocations on magnetic induction and the duration of magnetic «working» of the samples was determined. The experimental data obtained were analyzed within the framework of a previously developed theoretical scheme. A method is proposed for processing the experimental data which allows determination of the real mean velocity of dislocations and basic statistical characteristics describing dislocation starting and stopping.
